Welcome
to the Hubertus M. Apel Winery

Geographically we are Moselanians. However, our grape varieties, soils, microclimate and terroir are a clear indication of how close we are to our colleagues in the French Burgundy. All these factors acting together give rise to the natural conditions that make our wines so special.

Preserving tradition, shaping the future

Our family was already involved in winegrowing since 1477 and has lived in Nittel for just as long. While his great-grandfather was still mainly active as a wine merchant, Hubertus Matthias and his wife Elfriede carried on with the wine production business.

This winegrowing enterprise was continued in 1988 by his sons Harald and Hubert, who, through more than 30 years of working together, have built up the business into one of the most modern wineries on the Mosel.

In 2016, the fourth generation of brothers Philip, Johannes and Matthias followed their father Harald into the family business.
A family business through and through!

Quality grows in
the vineyard

Shell Limestone! The heat-storing qualities of the stones and the sunlight-reflecting Mosel river shape the climate. Our location on a slope of up to 35% and a south-southwest orientation offer our vines the very best conditions for optimal growth. Out of our own conviction, we do not use herbicides, botriticides (fungicides) or insecticides. By sowing various herbs, flowers and grasses, we further increase the vitality of our vineyards. With this combination we strengthen the natural plant power of the vines and can reduce plant protection to a minimum.
